COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Sparks Police Associations replaced Charlene’s destroyed bike after she was struck in a marked crosswalk while riding to school and suffered minor injuries — the new bike was dropped off later that day.  KTVN
  • Catholic Charities distributed holiday spirit baskets that offered about two dozen breakfast items + cheer to local families on Tuesday, Dec. 16.  KTVN
  • 2 News Nevada personalities will ring the bell in Sparks on Friday as part of the Red Kettle Campaign to support a local charity drive.  KTVN

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Sparks Fire Department responded to a gas odor report when dangerous carbon monoxide levels exceeded 500 ppm in a home, prompting firefighters to evacuate a family who were taken to a hospital while NV Energy helped ventilate the area.  KTVN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Enrollment statewide in Nevada public schools declined 2% for the 2025-26 academic year as families shifted to charter schools while Clark County SD lost more than 14,000 students. The Nevada State Public Charter School Authority saw a 10.9% jump after absorbing six schools.  Reno Gazette-Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Daren Griffin, CEO of Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, will leave on Jan. 31 to become president and CEO of Columbus Regional Airport Authority in Ohio; officials will name an interim leader as the MoreRNO project expands.  Reno Gazette-Journal
  • Drivers who decorate their cars with Christmas lights must follow state law if driving. Nevada Highway Patrol says red and blue lights are illegal (they mimic emergency vehicles) and advises that vehicles with lit decorations stay off public roads.  News4

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A new report shows median home prices in Northern Nevada rose 4.5% to $565,000, while condo and townhome prices dropped 4.3% to $320,000. Economic growth along USA Parkway is drawing buyers from out-of-state.  FOX Reno
