COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sparks will host the Hometowne Christmas festivities from December 4 to 6 at Victorian Square—featuring holiday lights, live music and a parade—with several road closures in effect. Events include the 39 North Pole opening on December 4 from 4 to 9 p.m., a tree lighting on December 5 from 6:30 to 7 p.m. and a parade on December 6 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.  News4
  • Non-profit Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation partners with The Elves of Wingfield to host Christmas light shows at 7450 Ambush Circle in Sparks. The events will run until December 31 and include Santa photo sessions for a $15 donation on Dec 7th, Dec 8th, Dec 14th, Dec 15th, and Dec 16th along with refreshments, face painting & toy building kits.  KTVN
  • Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program asks community members to take a tag from a tree—shop for the selected person and bring the items to Meadowood Mall or local Walmart locations.  KTVN
  • Food Bank of Northern Nevada is running its Giving Tuesday campaign to raise money for local children—donations collected today will support food programs in the community.  KTVN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Spectrum outage disrupted News 4 for some customers in northern Nevada Monday morning—viewers turned to Channel 181 and online streaming as Spectrum worked to resolve the issue.  News4

CRIME NEWS

  • On Cyber Monday, many in Sparks will shop online for holiday gifts while officials warn that unsolicited texts could be phishing scams and advise residents to use alternative payment methods and schedule package deliveries when someone trusted is home to prevent theft.  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local leaders from Reno, Sparks and Washoe County are meeting today at 1 p.m. inside Washoe County Commission Chambers to discuss permanent housing options, shared regional data and shelter safety — agencies including Catholic Charities and the Reno Housing Authority will present updates on potential federal funding cuts and budget changes.  News4
  • The Vista Narrows Flood Mitigation Project is in final design to lessen flood risks by widening the Truckee River channel, building floodplain terraces and restoring wetlands. Construction will likely begin in 2028—after final approvals ensure the project protects Sparks, the airport and surrounding industrial areas.  KTVN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nevada Baseball named Jordan Getzelman as the new head coach pending NSHE Board of Regents approval after Jake McKinley left for a job with the Seattle Mariners. Getzelman helped the team win the Mountain West regular season championship last season and will lead a squad entering 2026 with all five All-Mountain West selections returning — a boost for Nevada Baseball — as they aim to keep their winning ways.  KTVN
  • Nevada Football head coach Jeff Choate announced Monday that offensive coordinator David Gilbertson, wide receivers coach James Price, and senior offensive analyst Matt Wade will not return in 2026—he said the shift is needed after the offense did not meet expected standards.  KTVN
