COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community members packed hundreds of sack lunches for the homeless yesterday—offering essential meals and support to local residents.  KTVN
  • Northern Nevadans are invited to join a watch party at Schussboom Brewing in Reno on December 2 at 5:30 p.m. to view the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree lighting live—guests in Christmas attire will get a complimentary beer and a discount on commemorative T-shirts.  KTVN
  • Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue will start the season with a weekend Black Friday toy collection at the Walmart Supercenter on November 29 & 30 and a holiday parade led by firefighters with Santa from December 11 to 15 to collect new toys for children in need. People can drop off toys at parade stops, TMFR stations, or the fire district headquarters to benefit local charities including Renown Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House.  KTVN
  • Local high school students cooked and served a Thanksgiving meal for nearly 100 homeless and at-risk youth at Reno nonprofit Eddy House on Wednesday—supported by local schools and the Washoe County School District. The event provided a warm meal during a challenging time for many in the community.  News4

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Sinbad’s Hot Dogs in Sparks was badly damaged when a car crashed into its front on Monday while the restaurant was closed, and community members have begun donating to cover repair costs and support the longtime business—no one was injured in the accident.  KTVN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local retailers in Sparks announced that many stores will adjust their hours and close early ahead of Thanksgiving — shoppers are urged to check each store's schedule and plan their visits accordingly.  KTVN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Latino group Somos Votantes Education Fund and national nonprofit Undue Medical Debt joined forces to reduce $133 million in medical bills for 128,000 eligible Nevadans; affected individuals will receive letters this week telling them which debts are cleared + the effort aims to ease the strain of rising health care costs.  Reno Gazette-Journal

  • Former Wolf Pack Head Coach Chris Ault spoke with 2 News Nevada about the rivalry game with UNLV and explained how the contest boosts local spirit—he noted the matchup remains a key part of community tradition and excitement for future games.   KTVN
  • The Spanish Springs Cougars ended their undefeated season after beating the Faith Lutheran Crusaders 42 to 23 on Tuesday night at Allegiant Stadium — clinching the Nevada 5A state title with 13 wins. The game saw the Cougars build a steady lead in the first three quarters as fans cheered the team's performance.  KTVN
