Catholic Charities is hosting a Thanksgiving meal at St. Vincent's Dining Room on Thursday—local residents in need are invited.

Several organizations recognized Sparks Middle School students for their perfect attendance—honoring the students' commitment during the school event.

An item served at lunch Tuesday at Washoe County elementary schools contained small glass-like objects and caused one student to suffer a minor finger cut, prompting the district to remove all frozen, reheated tater tots and notify its vendor — an investigation is ongoing at 12 schools.

Ace Hardware stores sell frozen pies that taste homemade for $20 and have built a cult following among local customers.

Sales associate Ed Hansen said the pies, available in many flavors at the Sparks store, drive repeat visits—customers often pick one up alongside their hardware needs.

Students at Smith Valley Schools are learning to prepare turkeys for Thanksgiving by catching, weighing, tagging, and processing the birds — from scalding to plucking — as part of a hands-on business program where 64 turkeys are frozen for sale to local families, and students may earn up to 60% of the profit.
