COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada expanded its Thanksgiving meal kit program to serve up to 1,000 more families amid rising demand; kits were available at Winnemucca from November 18 to 20 & will be available at other pantries on November 20 and 21, and a free meal will be served in Reno on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.& KTVN
- ➤ Capriotti's partnered with the Reno Sparks Gospel Mission for a Capsgiving event on Nov 18—helping local residents get support during the holiday season. KTVN
- ➤ A free Thanksgiving meal will be served on Thursday, November 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Vincent's Dining Room—325 Valley Road in Reno. Supported by Nugget Casino Resort and Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada, the event will prepare over 1,300 meals and deliver extra food to local shelters. KTVN
- ➤ The Salvation Army will give out 7,000 gifts to kids in need this year + the holiday program is set to support local families during the season. KTVN
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Washoe County Search and Rescue team rescued five people and two dogs from deep snow along the dirt extension of Garson Road in Verdi on November 18th, 2025—using specialized vehicles and a medic to reach the stranded off-roaders. News4
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Sparks Middle and Risley Elementary Schools were placed on a secured campus Tuesday morning when the Washoe County School District announced the action at 9:50 a.m. — Sparks Police took a wanted person into custody — and officials confirmed there is no threat to the community. KTVN
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ WCSD Director of Transportation Scott Lee reminded families to update their contact information so they can get notifications about two-hour delays, school closures and winter bus stop locations when weather makes travel dangerous; district staff monitor road conditions from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. and use phone, text, email, website and Parent Hotline — urging drivers to slow down for student safety. - ➤ The Washoe County School District will restart a new charter contract with Encompass Charter School—this move will expand educational options at a local Washoe County school. KTVN
- ➤ On Tuesday the Washoe County Board of Trustees voted unanimously to repurpose four elementary schools — Roger Corbett, Veterans Memorial, Edwin S. Dodson and Smithridge — as part of a plan to modernize outdated facilities. The district will begin repurposing work for two schools in the 26-27 school year and start transition planning for the other two in 27-28 while engaging with the community on their future use. News4
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe is still short on snow and will open when a packed base of at least a foot is reached — the resort is making snow in colder temperatures and hopes to meet that goal by Thanksgiving. Other Tahoe-area ski resorts already have set dates, so Mt. Rose will announce its start when conditions are right. Reno Gazette-Journal
