COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Food Bank of Northern Nevada and partner agencies will hold three special distributions on Saturday, November 15 to help families affected by the federal government shutdown. Events will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1305 Sullivan Ln in Sparks, 149 Grimes St in Fallon, and 1251 Waterloo Ln in Gardnerville.  KTVN
  • Eddy House and other local organizations reported a rise in the number of homeless youth and are facing daily challenges meeting increased needs in our community.  KTVN
  • On Monday, the City of Sparks declared November National Homeless Youth Awareness Month as local groups—like Eddy House—combat the rise in homeless youth, a situation worsened by government shutdown impacts and inflation. Eddy House CEO Trevor Macaluso said that a 70% increase in bed nights in September and higher service numbers this year point to a growing need for community support.  KTVN
  • Residents were advised to shut off sprinkler controllers and disconnect garden hoses to protect irrigation systems as winter weather approached. Officials from Truckee Meadows Water Authority and Tailored Lawn Care stressed that draining backflow pipes completely—a key step— helped reduce repair costs and prevent freeze damage.  KTVN

  • Tickets for Sheep Show 2026 are on sale—visitors will attend free seminars and see taxidermy displays—and they can enter raffles.  KTVN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • U.S. Census Data shows 28% of Nevada renters pay over half their income on rent, making the state the second most burdened—Florida edges it with 31%. In Reno, residents like Blana Lazaro, a 38-year local, face rising rents and added fees that force many to live with family until they regain financial stability.  KTVN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Truckee River Flood Management Authority launched 'Know the Flow'—a flood resource library with maps, facts, safety tips, and historical photos—as part of Nevada Flood Awareness Week from Nov. 9 to Nov. 15. The library aims to help locals prepare for potential flooding along the Truckee River through collaboration among regional stakeholders.  FOX Reno

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • RTC is offering free rides for veterans today in honor of Veterans Day—helping veterans access transportation without cost. The service runs throughout the day to ensure support for those who served.  KTVN
  • Airport officials said that on November 10, Reno-Tahoe International Airport experienced 27 canceled flights and at least 90 delays due to FAA-mandated flight reductions—passengers faced disruptions in their travel plans.  KTVN

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A report from Sierra Nevada REALTORS showed that home prices in Northern Nevada rose by 3.6 percent in October as the median for single-family homes reached $575,000—indicating a steadier market after years of rapid change. Condos and townhomes had a median price of $335,000 and buyers and sellers are finding local opportunities.  KTVN
