- ➤ Liberty Utilities has maintained shutoffs along South 395—residents in Woodfords, Desolation Hotel, Topaz, Coleville, and Walker areas remain without power. KTVN
- ➤ The Food Bank of Northern Nevada is organizing a holiday food drive—this drive comes as the organization outsources extra food—to meet rising needs during the season. KTVN
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Strong winds knocked down a power line near Lemmon Drive and Surge Street in Lemmon Valley Wednesday, leaving three local businesses without power and forcing Rancher's Feed and Supply to close for the day—NV Energy reported the line was first seen at 7:30 a.m. with no time set for restoration. - ➤ A fire started by wind near Fourth Street and I-80 eastbound (November 5) led NV Energy to shut off power in the area, which was later restored. KTVN
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A study by Visit Reno Tahoe found that tourism generated over $5.2 billion in economic impact for Washoe County in 2024 and supported about 43,800 jobs. The report showed that nearly 3.8 million visitors added more than $420 million in tax revenue with August reaching nearly $56 million in taxable room revenue — the highest monthly tally — and officials said the findings will guide future planning. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Nevada National Guard has mobilized 35 members to support food banks across Nevada amid a government shutdown that affects nearly 500,000 SNAP beneficiaries—25 in the north and 10 in the south. This deployment is part of Gov. Joe Lombardo’s Food Insecurity Nevada Plan and comes as local food banks report rising demand for assistance. News4
- ➤ NV Energy reports nearly 33,000 customers are without power in Washoe County— the largest outage is near Kings Row in the 89503 area and cause and restoration time remain unknown, while a smaller planned outage affects Douglas County. KTVN
- ➤ On Wednesday, Nevada's Division of Social Services delivered about $29 million in partial SNAP benefits to over 196,000 households—many received less than 50% of their approved amounts and roughly 13,900 households got no benefits. The payments followed a federal judge order and come as state leaders plan to introduce emergency cash aid in an upcoming special session. Reno Gazette-Journal
- ➤ Many road work projects are underway across Reno and Sparks and will cause traffic delays in the coming months. Projects include a roundabout widening in south Reno, road widening on U.S. 395, Sparks Boulevard improvements, I-80 resurfacing, downtown bridge replacements, and Sparks’ Kate Smith Phase 2 Project with paving ending on Nov. 5 and full work finishing on Nov. 21 — officials urge drivers to take alternate routes — as local agencies update the roads. - ➤ The Nevada Wolf Pack Men’s Basketball team opened their season with a 77—50 win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at the Lawlor Events Center. Chuck Bailey III led the scoring with 24 points and the Pack will face Pacific University this Saturday. KTVN
