- ➤ The University of Nevada, Reno is expanding programs to help local farmers grow more food and use water wisely. The efforts include testing new crops and hands-on training—each step helps farmers cut costs and build a stronger food system. KTVN
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Clean Up The Lake finished a six-month Tahoe Deep Dive Pilot Project in July—volunteers removed 1,933 pounds of trash from Lake Tahoe’s deep parts between 35 and 55 feet. Preliminary data shows that similar areas might hide over 29,000 pounds of debris and will help guide future cleanup efforts and educational programs. KTVN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Duncan Leao from the U.S. Forest Service said the Silver Belle, a Christmas tree from Northern Nevada, has been moved to D.C. — federal employees worked to get it there even during the government shutdown. Reno Gazette-Journal
- ➤ Governor Joe Lombardo and state examiners recommended $30 million in emergency funding for local food banks because federal SNAP dollars will run out on Nov. 1 — the funds will go to Three Square and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. The Legislature’s Interim Finance Committee will review the plan today. News4

- ➤ Courage House Nevada opened today as the first treatment facility in Nevada that gives child survivors of sex trafficking a safe, full-time home with individual bedrooms and provided homeschooling while keeping its location secret for security—Courage Worldwide offers therapies like music and play therapy and has received major donations including one of one million dollars to expand its services.
