GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, during the shutdown's 23rd day, local SNAP recipients and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada worried that benefits might be cut if the shutdown continues into next month. The Food Bank helps 160,000 people a month and around 477,000 Nevadans—who rely on $90 million in monthly SNAP funding—face a growing risk if federal funds are not restored. KTVN
- ➤ After a Trailblazers head coach and a Miami Heat player were arrested in a gambling operation, the Nevada Gaming Control Board said casinos use strict systems to monitor sports betting — including strong authentication checks to protect wager integrity. KTVN
- ➤ NV Energy got PUC approval for a peak demand charge that raises rates during the busiest 15-minute period, but the Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection and solar groups have filed petitions saying the change and a net metering tweak break state law.
