BUSINESS NEWS

  • Alaska Airlines grounded its flights (with Horizon Air affected) on Thursday due to an information technology outage that caused delays at Reno-Tahoe International Airport. The airline advised passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, during the shutdown's 23rd day, local SNAP recipients and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada worried that benefits might be cut if the shutdown continues into next month. The Food Bank helps 160,000 people a month and around 477,000 Nevadans—who rely on $90 million in monthly SNAP funding—face a growing risk if federal funds are not restored.  KTVN
  • After a Trailblazers head coach and a Miami Heat player were arrested in a gambling operation, the Nevada Gaming Control Board said casinos use strict systems to monitor sports betting — including strong authentication checks to protect wager integrity.  KTVN
  • NV Energy got PUC approval for a peak demand charge that raises rates during the busiest 15-minute period, but the Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection and solar groups have filed petitions saying the change and a net metering tweak break state law. A hearing on these issues is set for Nov. 18 + new solar customers in Northern Nevada may see their monthly bills rise by about $11.  Reno Gazette-Journal
  • Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada is partnering with state DSS to help families understand upcoming SNAP policy changes during a meeting today from noon to 3 p.m. at St. Vincent’s Food Pantry, 500 E. Fourth St., as federal waivers end on November 2 and work requirements are expected to resume in December — residents are urged to attend to prevent any disruption in benefits.  KTVN
  • A water leak near Sparks Police Station is closing a lane on East Prater Way at the intersection with Lillard Drive as the Truckee Meadows Water Authority works to assess the issue—officials advise drivers to use alternate routes until repairs are complete.  KTVN

  • The northern Nevada housing market has stabilized after years of price swings with median sales at $550,000 and interest rates falling almost one percent since the start of the year. Realtors report that well-kept, turnkey homes are drawing full-price offers—giving sellers profit chances while first-time buyers hope for lower rates.  KTVN

  • Forward Elijah Price of the Nevada Wolf Pack men's basketball team was selected to the Preseason All-Mountain West Team for the 2025-26 season—he averaged 10.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game with 11 double-doubles at Fresno State last season.  KTVN
