- ➤ The Washoe County Sheriff's Office and Reno Police Department are competing in the Red Kettle Run—an event to raise money for Salvation Army Reno—in a challenge that will last until November 14. KTVN

- ➤ Halloween spending is set to hit a record $13.1 billion this year due to rising tariffs on Chinese imports—affecting nearly 90% of products and pushing average spending to about $114 per person, according to the National Retail Federation. In Sparks, local shopper Emily Carl said she noticed little change, spending roughly $80 for her two children. News4

- ➤ FEMA has redrawn Washoe County flood maps to show new high-risk zones including parts of Sparks along the Truckee River — urging residents to check if their address falls in these zones and prepare for potential floods. News4
- ➤ The Sparks Fire Department will place seven free green waste dumpsters in Sparks from Oct 13 to Oct 21 to help residents dispose of yard debris and reduce wildfire risk — the effort, funded by a $29,000 grant from the Nevada Fire Chiefs Association, will accept only green yard waste like leaves, branches and grass clippings while disallowing furniture, hazardous chemicals and other items.
