COMMUNITY NEWS

  • 2 News Nevada is partnering with the Better Business Bureau to host the Secure Your ID Day event—details on the time and location will be announced soon.  KTVN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Nevadans without a college degree can get high-paying jobs in areas like piloting, elevator repair, and power work—airline pilots earn a median wage of $180,600 with 173 projected openings. State data shows many locals with only a high school diploma can find six-figure wages in these fields.  Reno Gazette-Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • RiSE Academy for Adult Achievement held its ribbon cutting on Thursday—celebrating the new location that has been open since August 11.  KTVN
  • Avalanche education classes were offered free for locals to learn the basics of safe back-country skiing—an opportunity that helped improve back-country safety.  KTVN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Over 75 KTMB volunteers cleaned nearly 9 tons of trash and 3.75 tons of invasive weeds from the Truckee River corridor east of Sparks from September 27 to 30—removing hazardous items like tires, needles, and a makeshift barge from sites at Lockwood and McCarran Parks.  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A water break in Sparks has closed Sparks Boulevard from Spanish Springs Road to Baring Boulevard—city spokesperson said the road will remain closed until Friday.  KTVN
  • A major water main break reported earlier today closed northbound Sparks Boulevard from Baring Boulevard to Disc Drive near Shadow Lane—officials say delays will continue until repairs are completed.  News4
  • All Nevada counties can now apply for managed Medicaid—rural counties and urban areas are both eligible under the program—per the new guidelines issued recently.  KTVN
  • Our Center lost two major federal funding sources on October 2—resulting in a loss of over $1 million for its programs.  KTVN

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • On Sept. 16, work continued at the Oddie District project in Sparks where a former Lowe’s store is being turned into an innovation district—housing, offices and shops will be built as part of the redevelopment.  Reno Gazette-Journal
