- ➤ Washoe County School District is tackling an $18M budget gap by consolidating schools and modernizing old buildings. Pine Middle School will close after this school year and some students may move — while the district shifts textbook funding and lowers utility costs — without any staff layoffs. News4
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ At least 10 ducks and one Canada goose were found dead or dying at South Meadows Community Pond on Sept. 29 — experts say a harmful algal bloom weakened the birds so predators attacked them. Officials are tracking the scene — they advise people to avoid discolored water. Reno Gazette-Journal
