COMMUNITY NEWS

  • REMSA will offer thirty free car seat checks to the community—helping parents ensure car seats are properly installed for safety.  KTVN
  • A Starlink satellite broke apart over Reno on Sept. 25 after 7:45 p.m. PDT, leaving a trail of debris visible in the sky—less than two hours later a Falcon 9 rocket launched 24 new satellites from Vandenberg and another launch is planned for Sunday evening if skies are clear.  Reno Gazette-Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Dragon Lights Festival began on September 26th with its first night featuring 40 brand-new exhibits — themed Odyssey of Wave and Woods.  KTVN
  • The World Gay Rodeo Finals will return to Reno at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center from Oct. 9 through Oct. 12 to mark its 50th anniversary - free admission is offered each night from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and the event includes dance sessions and workshops at local venues.  FOX Reno
  • Reno Jazz Orchestra is honoring Donny Hathaway this weekend at The Nugget in Sparks and raising awareness for suicide prevention by teaming with local nonprofits—Note-Able Music Therapy Services and Northern Nevada HOPES. The tribute shows how music can support wellness and healing.  KTVN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • EmployNV is inviting job seekers in Northern Nevada to attend events that offer tips on resumes, job search strategies and interview skills, with sessions scheduled in Reno on September 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in Sparks on October 1 at 2 p.m., and in Carson City on October 2 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.—pre-registration is encouraged.  KTVN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Friday, over 2,000 high school students attended the 8th annual Northern Nevada Construction Career Day at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center where more than 50 exhibitors showcased construction career opportunities—organized by the Washoe County School District’s Career and Technical Department and local trade groups. The event gave students real-world insight into various paths in construction.  FOX Reno

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Starting Oct 1, the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribal Council requires all motorized and trailered watercraft to undergo inspections at Pyramid Lake to keep invasive mussels away. Boaters must display a receipt and keep vessels clean — if not, they will face decontamination fees and may enter a monthly raffle for a permit exemption.  News4

  • The DOJ said Nevada was removed from the sanctuary state list - making it the first state to lose that status as officials announced the change yesterday.  KTVN

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • On Monday at 3 p.m., KTVN will debut '2 Plus You Nevada,' a new lifestyle show hosted by Sarah Johns that spotlights local businesses, dining, and community events—bringing northern Nevada's unique culture to viewers.  KTVN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Friday night marked the start of league play as Hug and Wooster met in their first in-league rivalry game with both teams seeking their first win. At Hug High, athletic trainer Brent Hatakeyama outlined a routine — hydrating with electrolytes, taping ankles and stretching — to keep players healthy while students gain hands-on training experience.  KTVN
