COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern Nevada and Renown Children's Hospital will host the Red Shoe Speakeasy Gala on Saturday, September 20, at the Renaissance Reno Downtown Hotel and Spa—featuring a plated dinner, live jazz, prohibition cocktails and a silent auction— to benefit children and families.  News4
  • RTC is offering free rides to local residents to attend the Balloon Race, which starts Friday—providing an easy ride option for participants.  KTVN

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fatal crash occurred on Nevada State Route 118 and the Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating the incident—officials have not released more details yet.  KTVN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local toddler Logan from Northern Nevada is competing in the Toddler of the Year 2025 contest and currently holds 9th place in the quarterfinals—he could win $25,000, a national ad campaign, a spot in the Hollywood Christmas Parade, and a trip to Disney World—and residents can help him advance by voting before the round ends.  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Sparks Police Department has deployed a new docked drone stored at a secure location—its rapid response cuts officer time at violent crimes and helped locate a suspect during a recent incident near the Rib Cook-Off. The system, contracted through Axon and funded from the city’s general money fund approved in 2024, will support faster emergency responses for the region.  News4
  • Today, Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam made local cancer fighter Soren Tucker sheriff for a day in an event by the Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation to support families facing cancer. Soren, who ends treatment for stage four Wilms tumor soon, toured the office, sat in the sheriff’s chair, and participated in activities—experiencing the work of the sheriff's office with his family.  KTVN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Absolute Dental confirmed that a February 2025 cyberattack exposed the personal and protected health information of 1,223,635 people, including names, social security numbers + health details. The practice fixed its system quickly after it found the breach on February 26th and experts confirmed unauthorized access continued until March 5th.  News4
