- ➤ A crash slowed traffic on Highway 395 south near Parr Blvd Tuesday morning just before 6 a.m.—traffic backed up for a long way with no word on injuries as Reno Fire was called. KTVN
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Sparks Police are searching for a 12-year-old runaway named Suelton Nixon known as Nino, who was last seen wearing a dark-colored shirt, blue shorts and black shoes — he is high functioning with autism and may try to ride a bus. KTVN
- ➤ City Attorney Wes Duncan warned Sparks today that the illegal use of electric dirt bikes in crowded neighborhoods and on busy roadways has led to a rise in citations, crashes—especially involving juvenile riders—and will face strict enforcement under Nevada law. News4
- ➤ Sparks Police are searching for a 12-year-old boy with autism named Suelton Nixon, reported missing on August 18 at 4:39 p.m. from the 140 Block of East Prater Way; he was last seen wearing a dark-colored shirt, blue shorts, and black shoes (also known as Nino) and may board public transportation due to his interest in buses. - ➤ A lawsuit filed Monday claims that Cascades of the Sierra in Sparks failed to protect an 84-year-old dementia patient when a 92-year-old resident with a history of sexual abuse assaulted her—raising questions about the facility's safety measures and motives for keeping him for his rent money. - ➤ A recent study in Science Advances found that the American Southwest — including parts of Nevada — is rapidly losing groundwater due to severe drought and overuse, with the lower Colorado River Basin losing water equal to Lake Mead’s capacity in the last 20 years. - ➤ Sparks Redevelopment Agency is planning to buy eight acres in the Marina district for a new city hall campus at a cost of $10 million, with the decision coming on August 25 after the City Council meeting — city manager Dion Louthan said the project will replace the aging facility with one that consolidates services for the public. The move is seen as a long-planned step to boost Redevelopment Area 2 as the area transforms. News4
