CRIME NEWS

  • A Sparks detective testified that an autopsy showed the three-month-old starved and there was no evidence of feeding—Giovonnye Hart and Hailey Moniz have been set bail at $250,000 each on charges of murdering their infant as they await a court return in October.  KTVN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Lombardo signed Senate Bill 460—a new bipartisan education bill—at Mountain View Elementary on Monday to boost accountability at under-performing schools and launch a new literacy initiative for students.  KTVN
  • Thousands of Washoe County kindergarten students, including 5-year-old Hartley Grandfield, began school on Monday as the Class of 2038 started their new journey. Parents and staff encouraged bravery while the children, many born during the pandemic, looked forward to learning—marking a hopeful new chapter.  Reno Gazette-Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nevada state officials are asking residents to share their input on a ten-year plan to improve public outdoor recreation. The online survey runs through November and will help shape the plan that aims to secure LWCF matching grants—residents can share their views in English or Spanish.  KTVN
