- ➤ Today, a wildfire called the Rancho Fire burned 700 acres on a ridge near Chuckwagon Road in Rancho Haven and forced evacuations while firefighters hiked through rough terrain to battle the blaze and an evacuation center at North Valleys Library (staffed by the American Red Cross) offers evacuees snacks and water as the Peppermill provides discounted rates with code HEVAC when proof of residency is shown. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Undercover HEAT detectives arrested 72-year-old Raul Serafin-Montelongo and issued citations to six others for soliciting prostitution during an operation in Washoe County—targeting sex purchasers as part of efforts to reduce human trafficking. KTVN
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue is offering free green waste collection days in October to help residents dispose of dry vegetation and reduce wildfire risk. Residents in Washoe County can drop off green waste at designated dumpsters in Washoe Valley, Reno, Sparks and Palomino Valley from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.—weather permitting. FOX Reno
