ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue knocked down the Flat Fire, a small wildfire that grew to 3 acres northeast of Cold Springs on Tuesday while crews remained on scene to mop up—no buildings were damaged or threatened. KTVN
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Reno police released body cam footage showing officers exchanging gunfire with a suspected shooter at Grand Sierra Resort on July 28—six people were shot, including Sparks’ Angel Martinez, and the suspect, Dakota Hawver, later died on July 31. Reno Gazette-Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Washoe County schools are taking steps to keep students safe amid fears that ICE agents may enter only school lobbies—judicial warrants are needed to go further. The ACLU of Nevada stressed that FERPA keeps education records safe and that a student's right to learn is protected. FOX Reno
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fair Maps Nevada PAC, led by Sondra Cosgrove, will refile an initiative for the 2026 ballot to form a 7-member commission that will draw state political maps—an effort aimed at ending partisan gerrymandering after the 2024 version was struck down. Cosgrove urged opponents to avoid lawsuits so that voters can have a say in how the maps are drawn. News4
