  • Firehouse Subs in Sparks is hosting a school supply drive through the end of August to support local students and teachers as community members drop off new, unopened supplies. The sandwich shop offers a first responder discount to any customer who donates — honoring its heritage and support for local first responders.  KTVN

CRIME NEWS

  • Nicholas Loving, the father of 5 year old Izabella, was booked Wednesday on an open murder charge after a four month investigation found her April death was a homicide—Andrea Loving had been arrested on July 28 on child abuse or neglect with substantial bodily harm charges—and police say the case now moves forward.  Reno Gazette-Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • With students returning to school today, the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety and Zero Fatalities program urge drivers to be extra cautious in school zones to keep children safe. Officials cited a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration showing 108 school transportation-related fatalities annually—emphasizing that these deaths are preventable.  KTVN
  • Yesterday, actor Jeremy Renner, Governor Lombardo and Senators Cortez Masto, Rosen and Schiff attended the Tahoe Summit at Valhalla Tahoe. They delivered keynote speeches and presented Lake Tahoe Stewardship Certificates—highlighting a commitment to regional conservation.  Reno Gazette-Journal
  • Nevada has joined a bipartisan coalition of attorneys general that urged the DOJ to take stronger federal action against illegal offshore online gaming, saying these unlicensed operations harm the state’s economy and put consumers at risk. The coalition letter, which also cited links to money laundering and human trafficking, calls on the DOJ to use federal tools such as court orders under the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act—lawmakers recently increased penalties with Senate Bill 256.  KTVN
