ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A crash slowed traffic on I-80 near North McCarran Blvd. in Sparks before 3 p.m. on Tuesday (Aug 5) as NDOT cameras showed the incident (with no injuries reported). KTVN
- ➤ Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue reported that the Peavine Fire near Cold Springs burned nearly 120 acres and was 35% contained as crews worked overnight to secure its edges while smoke lingered from ongoing hotspots (no buildings were lost and no injuries were reported) and (Union Pacific Railroad repaired a damaged rail line while power was restored in the area). CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Andrea Loving, charged with child abuse causing substantial bodily harm in the death of her daughter Izabella — was granted $2 million bail without a 10% cash option and placed on house arrest — with restrictions on contact with her husband and unsupervised contact with her other children. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Washoe County School District held a ribbon-cutting yesterday in Sparks to open the new Debbie Smith CTE Academy on the former Hug High School site; classes will begin Monday, August 11th for 700 students with 40 teaching stations+9 CTE academies. The school offers career courses that let students earn both high school and college credits+team sports and clubs to help prepare them for the future. News4
