CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On July 29, law enforcement agencies statewide—including Sparks Police Department among others—joined the fourth annual ‘May You Choose Not to Drive Impaired’ campaign in honor of fallen trooper Micah May, and the effort resulted in 541 traffic stops, 333 citations, 39 DUI arrests and 2 felony arrests. - ➤ Andrew Canepa— a co-owner of Side Street Café from Newbury Park— was killed in the mass shooting at Grand Sierra Resort in Reno on Monday, July 28; officers subdued the gunman minutes later and he remains hospitalized. FOX Reno
- ➤ The Sparks Police Department confirmed that a viral video shows a man in dark clothing running from the Grand Sierra Resort on July 28 after a shooting left two people dead at the scene, a third dead at the hospital, and injuries to several others, and the suspect was shot and is now hospitalized—officials report no known link between him and the victims. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City of Sparks has announced road closures and transit changes for Hot August Nights—Victorian Avenue, Victorian Plaza Circle, Avenue of the Oaks and 10th Street will have limited access and designated entry for registered cruise participants, while free RTC transit will run from August 5th through August 10th and road closures for cruise events take place from August 6th to 11th.
