ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Crews with the Reno Fire Department searched the Truckee River for a 40-year-old woman after a call came in at 8:30 p.m. Sunday night, with teams positioned at Fisherman's Park II, the Greg Street Bridge, and Rock Park using four boats and swimmers—but they did not find anyone and will resume the search today when daylight returns.  KTVN

CULTURE NEWS

  • On July 27th, the winners of the Miss Nevada USA and Miss Teen Nevada USA pageants were crowned while 2 News Nevada's Alexandra Rae, representing Reno, finished fourth.  KTVN
  • Local event organizers are staging a busy week in the Reno-Tahoe area with Artown’s closing concert, theater plays, live music shows, food truck gatherings and a Hot August Nights kickoff featuring classic car displays, while drivers should expect traffic delays from ongoing road construction in Reno and Sparks — officials advise planning ahead. Ticket prices, performance times and locations vary by event.  Reno Gazette-Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sparks Police warned drivers to steer clear of flooded streets after a storm sent heavy rain through the area last night (Sparks PD), and the Storey County Sheriff's Office closed Six Mile Canyon Road due to a mudslide (officials). Many local viewers sent in photos and videos of the storm via 2 News Nevada.  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The 17th Sustainment Brigade of the Nevada Army National Guard returned home on Saturday after a 10-month deployment in the Middle East, reuniting more than 200 soldiers & their families. Thirty Reno-area soldiers landed at Reno-Tahoe International Airport to reconnect with loved ones as they begin settling back into civilian life.  KTVN
  • Today, the Sparks Police Department warned drivers to avoid flooded areas near the Rock Boulevard/Interstate 80 overpass, Battle Born Way at Interstate 80 under the overpass, and Rock Boulevard at Oddie Boulevard—officials ask the public to take alternate routes.  KTVN

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Reno Aces defeated the Oklahoma City Comets 6-2 on Sunday at Greater Nevada Field (the Comets are the Triple-A affiliate of the Dodgers) with strong pitching from Bryce Jarvis and timely hits from Seth Brown, Albert Almora Jr., and Andy Weber. The team will start a two-week road trip on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. against the Las Vegas Aviators (the series opener).  KTVN
