- ➤ RTC is offering free rides today to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, marking a milestone in civil rights for people with disabilities. KTVN
- ➤ NOAA reports that twelve people have died from lightning this year, with all fatalities occurring outside Nevada and most victims being male. Washoe County Nutrition Services is preparing to provide free meals to schools starting August 11 as the new school year approaches. KTVN
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The RSCVA Board approved a settlement with Nevada OSHA after investigating the death of employee Ryan Wilkinson, who fell 34 feet while removing electrical cable at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in January 2023, and agreed to pay a fine of $101,253.60 — the case highlights failures in safety training. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fire crews quickly contained a 3-acre blaze near Golden Eagle Regional Park today after it started just after 12:15 p.m. along Vista Blvd.—a much larger fire covering 1,226 acres is 98% contained and both fires remain under investigation. KTVN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Preparations are underway as a tree from Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will be chosen to be the first Nevadan Capitol Christmas Tree and transported to Washington in November for a national ceremony in early December—local residents may submit handmade ornaments by September 15th. KTVN
