- ➤ Hot August Nights will run from August 1 to August 9 — the event is set to bring vibrant summer festivities to Sparks. KTVN
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Washoe County Nutrition Services is preparing for free school meals as classes start on August 11; 68 community eligibility schools offer meals while 36 require parents to apply online or in person — with Debbie Smith Academy added this year. The district’s new partnership with Southwest Foodservice Excellence will bring updated menus for breakfast and lunch. KTVN
- ➤ Washoe County School District is trying to fill 139 teaching jobs before school starts on August 11 as it reviews 700 to 800 candidates. The district will hold speed interviews next week and is focusing on hiring 74 special education teachers—while also considering retirees and international applicants—to meet staffing needs. KTVN

- ➤ The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority approved a settlement with OSHA after an employee death by paying a fine of just over $101,000—officials said the agreement resolves the matter. KTVN
