- ➤ The Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission invites the community to its annual Christmas in July event on Friday, July 25 at 355 Record St, where festivities begin at 4 p.m. and attendees can enjoy a Christmas-themed dinner along with free personal hygiene items, socks for adults, and gifts for children (supplies available while they last) (event details subject to change). ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fully-loaded dump truck experienced a tire failure on I-80 eastbound near Vista Boulevard at 9:15 a.m. and ran off the highway, overturning and damaging over 200 feet of guardrail while the driver sustained minor injuries — officials say the right-most lane will be closed for about 5 to 6 hours and will be closed again for 2 hours around 6:00 p.m. to recover the truck — and they ask motorists to avoid the area. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Just after 3:00 a.m. Monday, Sparks Police reported that a car crashed into an apartment building near Rock Boulevard and 15th Street, sending debris into nearby apartments and causing moderate damage—18-year-old Noe Lara-Marquez lost control while speeding and was arrested on DUI, underage alcohol, no driver's license, and lane maintenance charges. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials said the Gold Fire near Golden Eagle Regional Park is now 65% contained at 1,226 acres and held steady since the last update — full containment is expected sometime today as crews manage the blaze. KTVN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Later this month the city will install six off‑grid solar‑powered streetlights in the Grand Pointe community through an agreement with D.R. Horton; the lights work during power outages, survive winds up to 160 mph and save 200—300 pounds of coal each while a tree is planted for every light installed. KTVN
