BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ A six-year legal battle led to a settlement that will change Waste Management’s commercial pickup rules in Northern Nevada — the firm must now notify customers via email, app, and mail and offer a 3-hour pickup window along with a two-warning system before extra fees are charged. The new rules will begin within 90 days of court approval and a hearing is set for Friday at 1 p.m. FOX Reno
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Nevada Air National Guard activated its 152nd Airlift Wing aircraft equipped with Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems to help suppress Western wildfires, operating out of Channel Islands Air National Guard Base. A unit from California’s 146th Airlift Wing will join the efforts in mid-August — both teams will support ground crews with rapid retardant drops. KTVN
- ➤ The House passed a bill that cuts $8 billion in federal funds and reduces $1 billion for CPB, so local stations like KUNR Public Radio and PBS Reno will have less money for news and educational programs—officials warn this may hurt rural communities.
