Good morning, Sparks.

Nearly 5,000 people were without power in the Wingfield Springs area on Monday afternoon.

A wildland fire burning in grass north of Sun Valley near Barrel Springs Road has burned about 50 acres and threatened nearby structures, prompting evacuation orders at Sun Valley Regional Park while crews from Reno, Sparks and Storey County work to contain the blaze—air attack is in effect.

On July 14th, Sparks City Council approved measures that included proclaiming Sparks Piranhas Swim Team Day, ratifying an $840,000 emergency procurement for heating at the Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility, and voting on employee pay increases and zoning changes — actions that will affect local parks, public safety, and future land use.
