  • Wild Island opened its new kid zone for children 54 inches tall or shorter. The park thanked its partners & team members for their support as work on the project was completed.  KTVN

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A car and a moped crashed on Plumb Lane today, sending one person to the hospital and blocking the intersection. A heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. today until 11 a.m. PDT Wednesday — residents in northern Washoe County and other areas should prepare for temperatures between 98 and 105 degrees with overnight lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s.  KTVN

CRIME NEWS

  • Sparks police arrested two Reno men—Fahad Estepa, 28, suspected of open murder with a deadly weapon, and Jonathan Reyes, 21, charged with accessory after the fact—for their roles in the June 27 shooting that killed 19-year-old Felipe Acuna near 440 Greenbrae Drive, and the investigation remains ongoing.  Reno Gazette-Journal
  • The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is asking locals to help find suspects after a commercial theft at The Wave Car Wash on La Posada Drive on July 8—surveillance footage shows a gold Toyota pickup truck leaving the scene with a stolen vacuum unit.  News4

HEALTH NEWS

  • High temperatures this weekend may break records as Sunday's forecast of 104 degrees tops the previous high of 103 while Monday's 104-degree forecast falls short of the 105 record. Health officials warn that Heat Advisories are in effect for northwestern Nevada from 11 a.m. Saturday through 11 a.m. Wednesday—residents should take precautions to avoid heat exhaustion.  KTVN
