CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Las Vegas man was accused in a deadly Sparks hit-and-run that happened last month at the South 21st Street intersection. A heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Sunday to 11 a.m. PDT Wednesday across parts of Nevada—officials say temperatures will reach between 95 and 105 degrees with overnight lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s. - ➤ On July 10th, Sparks police arrested two suspects in connection with last month's deadly shooting near Greenbrae Drive — 28-year-old Fahad Estepa faces a charge of open murder with a deadly weapon in the killing of 19-year-old Felipe Acuna and 21-year-old Jonathan Reyes is charged as an accessory, with both being booked into Washoe County Jail. - ➤ First responders shared wildfire prevention advice yesterday—tips include staying in cool places, drinking water, and checking on neighbors to reduce fire risks during high heat. KTVN

- ➤ The local Drug Court celebrated its 30th anniversary by helping people who have been incarcerated overcome substance use and mental health challenges. A heat advisory is in effect from 11 AM Sunday to 11 AM PDT Wednesday in parts of Nevada — with temperatures reaching 95 to 105 degrees and overnight lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s. KTVN
- ➤ On Wednesday, the Reno Police SWAT team practiced tactical maneuvers on a rented RTC bus at the Washoe County Training Center to prepare for potential hostage situations. Officer Bryan Christensen said the exercise helped the team learn to quickly control the bus—an essential step to improving public safety. KTVN

- ➤ The Nevada Humane Society in Reno is offering lower-cost spay-neuter surgeries for pets over the next two years after receiving a $600,000 grant from Washoe County’s COVID-19 funds & the surgeries cost between $80 and $250 and include microchipping and basic vaccines.
