ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ At least one person died in a crash on Pyramid Highway Friday evening south of Sutcliffe Highway — the highway is closed between Sutcliffe Highway and Dump Road and drivers are advised to use alternate routes. KTVN
- ➤ Pyramid Highway near mile marker 29 is shut down in both directions after an incident occurred along SR 445 (between Dump Road and Sutcliffe Highway) as emergency crews investigate with no reopening time set. News4
- ➤ Fire crews contained a two-acre wildfire near Golden Eagle Regional Park in Spanish Springs that started after 12:15 p.m. Friday — Sparks Fire, BLM, Forest Service and Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue responded to the scene. KTVN
- ➤ Pyramid Lake Fire & Rescue responded to multiple calls after wind pushed small crafts further into the lake than riders expected—rescuers worked to assist boaters and prevent additional incidents. KTVN
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Barron Fire burning near Rattlesnake Mountain is now fully contained and crews are finishing cleanup—after burning 290 acres that touched both Reno and Truckee Meadows with no injuries or building damage. The fire started Tuesday from a machinery spark and investigators are checking the cause. KTVN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Washoe County officials urged residents on July 4 to watch professional fireworks displays—warning that personal fireworks use is illegal and can lead to steep penalties to keep the area fire-safe. KTVN
- ➤ On July 3, the City of Sparks launched its Summer in the City pilot program on Victorian Ave, offering well-known events like Star Spangled Sparks, Hot August Nights and the Nugget Rib Cook-off along with pop-up events including a midsummer craft fair, chalk art day and Cornhole tournaments. The city closed Victorian Ave from Pyramid Way to Victorian Plaza to vehicle traffic until mid-October—ensuring a safe environment for guests. City of Sparks
