COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Sparks City Council voted unanimously on June 23rd to pass an agritourism zoning code that will let Andelin Family Farm grow and host events (the farm is now part of Ward Four as the city annexes nearby land). Owner Cameron Andelin said the new code will help the farm add a year-round store and an event space for weddings and receptions. KTVN
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Sparks Police asked for help identifying a suspect in a Best Buy theft that occurred June 23rd (witnesses reported a white car leaving the scene) and are checking local security footage (details remain limited). KTVN
- ➤ Sparks Police are seeking a suspect who allegedly shattered the front door of a prisoner transport system on Coney Island Drive last Friday. KTVN
- ➤ The Sparks Police Department is asking for help identifying two suspects who allegedly attempted to steal merchandise worth $553.48 from Scheels on June 16—if anyone has information, they are urged to contact the department. KTVN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Sparks Fire Department received a $29,000 grant from the Nevada Fire Chiefs Association to start a program that offers free green waste dumpsters to reduce wildfire risk in Sparks. Eight dumpsters - placed at selected sites starting today - include banners with QR codes linking to wildfire prevention tips. KTVN
- ➤ The Sparks City Council unanimously approved expanded rules that ban camping in more city areas and changed the rule to define camping as spending more than six hours in one place — the ban now includes the Victorian Square corridor, the area within 1,000 feet of the Sparks Marina, city parks, and city-owned parking structures, and the council is considering agro-tourism rezoning for Andelin Family Farm. - ➤ At its June 23 meeting, Sparks City Council approved insurance policies for the Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility, construction contracts with Sierra Nevada Construction for street rehabilitation and maintenance projects, fee suspensions for Victorian Square, and staffing cost adjustments. The council also held public hearings to amend municipal codes on City Manager authority, camping restrictions, and property rezoning—including the annexation of 164.9 acres of Andelin Farms to preserve local heritage.
