CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Riders and cattle completed a 60-mile journey on Thursday to arrive at the Reno rodeo grounds, officially marking the event's start. The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning—gusty winds and low humidity plus a Lake Wind Advisory in effect today and Friday warn residents to secure outdoor items. KTVN
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local officials warn of strong winds today in parts of Nevada as a Lake Wind Advisory is in effect until 9 PM over Pyramid, Lahontan and Rye Patch reservoirs, Walker, Topaz, Bridgeport, Mono, Crowley and Washoe lakes, with a Wind Advisory running from 11 AM to 11 PM and a Red Flag Warning until midnight. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items—wind gusts may reach 45 mph—and postpone boating—small boats could tip over—until the conditions improve. KTVN
- ➤ Today, the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District announced that all outdoor recreational and cooking fires are banned until further notice due to unseasonably hot, dry conditions that raise wildfire risk. Only propane, electric, and pellet-fueled barbecues are allowed and activities such as smoking outdoors, welding, and using chainsaws from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. are also prohibited—violators may receive citations and be charged for firefighting. - ➤ The Andelin Family Farm in unincorporated Washoe County is working with Sparks on rezoning changes to secure its agritourism events and festivals. The farm’s zoning request will be discussed at city council at city hall on Monday, June 23 at 2 p.m.—supporters may submit public comments. News4
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Today, 36 top riders will compete at the Reno Rodeo — they must hold on to a bull for 8 seconds to earn a score — as the event kicks off in the area. A wind advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. PDT across western Nevada and Mono County — gusts may reach 50 mph and a red flag warning remains until midnight — prompting residents to secure loose outdoor items.
