ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters contained a fence fire that spread to wildland in the 3000 block of Fairway Court in Sparks — the blaze burned about 0.2 acres and no injuries were reported while officials warned residents against using propane torches for weed removal. News4
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Sparks man pleaded guilty to robbery charges after taking a bag from a woman at Circus Circus parking garage in May 2024+ he was sentenced to 15 years in prison and will be eligible for parole after 6 years. KTVN
- ➤ Sparks police arrested Cory Quenzler after he allegedly robbed a woman and stole her purse, keys, and vehicle from the 300 Block of Los Altos on Monday around 11:00 a.m.—he faces charges of robbery with elderly enhancement, grand theft auto, and controlled substance possession while Reno police investigate his possible involvement in a similar carjacking. - ➤ A man was arrested Monday after Sparks police linked him to carjackings in Sparks and Reno, and they identified Cory Quenzler as the suspect who robbed a woman and stole her car while he was booked on charges including robbery with elderly enhancement and grand theft auto. KTVN
- ➤ A Sparks man pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery at the Circus Circus parking garage last May and was sentenced to 15 years in prison—he will be eligible for parole in 6 years. News4
- ➤ A 31-year-old Reno man suspected of DUI was arrested Tuesday in Sparks after driving in the wrong direction near Glendale Avenue and South Rock Blvd at about 6:15 a.m., with police later finding his car near South McCarran and East Greg Street — his breath test revealed a blood alcohol level over twice the legal limit and he now faces charges for DUI 1st, hit and run, no insurance, open container and failure to drive on the right half of the road. - ➤ Residents can sign up for free emergency preparedness training offered by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office Citizen Corps; the Community Emergency Response Team Academy will start July 10 at the Regional Public Safety Training Center on Spectrum Boulevard in Reno—learners will gain skills in first aid, fire safety and rescue and must complete their applications by July 9. - ➤ Washoe County board held a busy meeting today—addressing rising homelessness by halting shelter enrollments from outside the county and testing a new housing program while starting a seven-month search for a new manager as Eric Brown readies for retirement. Kate Thomas was unanimously named Interim Assistant County Manager to begin July 1—despite some public comments questioning her experience, board members backed her appointment for the short-term role.
