GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sparks City Councilwoman Charlene Bybee announced she is running for mayor and will seek the office in the 2026 election. KTVN
- ➤ A district court judge ruled on June 12 that Nevada must fund residential placement for a Washoe County student with disabilities after the state education department refused to meet the student's special needs—Judge David A. Hardy ordered the state to act quickly and halt its investigation into the district to protect its ability to serve all students. News4
- ➤ Gov. Joe Lombardo vetoed several tenant protection bills that aimed to reform eviction rules and curb rent hikes while signing AB 121, which requires landlords to clearly show rental costs. He also approved measures to boost rental assistance funding and backed a plan to allocate $133 million for building attainable housing—moves that keep the debate over housing reform alive. - ➤ A Nevada district court judge ruled on June 16th that the state must fund services for students with disabilities in Washoe County — the decision came after Washoe County’s efforts to work with the state Department of Education were not met. KTVN
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ State-run Nevada Health Link sent users sensitive health information like prescription names and dosages to tech companies such as LinkedIn and Snapchat — the agency later disabled the tracking software and will audit its systems to protect user data. Reno Gazette-Journal
