ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Monday after 9:45 a.m., fire crews responded to a fire near Isle of Skye Drive close to Sullivan Lane in Sparks—Sparks Fire and Police arrived on scene with no reports of injuries or threatened buildings.  KTVN
  • Sparks police are investigating a crash just before 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of Vista Boulevard and Wingfield Springs Parkway— a juvenile riding a non-street-legal motorcycle tried to cross in front of an oncoming car and was struck before being taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.  KTVN

CRIME NEWS

  • Anna Kline, a Sparks woman, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for running a Ponzi scheme that swindled $7 million from victims—she operated several shell companies that charged fake fees to fund a lavish lifestyle.  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Sparks City Council met on June 9, 2025 to review new board appointments, budget changes, and projects for local infrastructure — including contracts and legal agreements. Mayor Lawson declared Juneteenth Day on June 19 and recognized June as both Pride and Scoliosis Awareness Month — actions that support community progress.  City of Sparks
  • Multiple candidates have announced bids for Washoe County District Attorney in 2026—Sparks City Attorney Wes Duncan announced his run on June 9, saying he aims to make the county safer by tackling crime trends, while incumbent Christopher Hicks, elected in 2015 and reelected in 2018 and 2022, declared his bid for reelection on June 5. Both candidates emphasize public safety and their law enforcement experience as key reasons for their campaigns.  News4

HEALTH NEWS

  • A recall has been announced for 1.7 million dozen eggs sold at local stores including Walmart, Raley’s, and Safeway after a salmonella outbreak sickened at least 79 people and hospitalized 21—eggs with plant codes P-6562 or CA5330 and sell-by dates from March 4 through June 19 should be returned or discarded.  Reno Gazette-Journal
  • August Egg Company has recalled 1.7 million eggs sold in Nevada and other states due to salmonella concerns — the FDA report has linked these eggs to 79 illnesses and 21 hospitalizations. The recalled eggs, marked with specific production codes, were sold from February 3 through May 15 at various stores.  News4
