COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Sparks Parks and Recreation Department is inviting local artists to submit work for display in the Sparks City Hall Art Gallery. Artists must provide a cohesive body of 4 to 10 pieces, an artist statement, and digital images by July 7—I selection panels will choose one artist per quarter to showcase on a 12-foot by 7-foot gallery wall that welcomes roughly 2,000 monthly visitors.  News4

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A rollover crash happened in Sparks on June 4 when a marked Washoe County sheriff’s vehicle—traveling south on Pyramid Highway—entered an intersection on a red light and hit a Chevrolet Traverse; both drivers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and later released.  Reno Gazette-Journal
  • Firefighters in Cold Springs responded this afternoon to an RV fire on Egret Lane that spread to a nearby home—quick action prevented further damage and no residents were displaced as authorities investigate the cause.  News4

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scientists, city agencies and community members met at the Northern Nevada Heat Summit on Thursday to study heat maps and learn ways to lower rising summer temperatures—experts explained that using heat-reflective surfaces, smart tree planting and design changes can help cool the region.  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nevada’s temporary order to sell non-cage-free eggs will end on June 20, and after that all eggs must come from cage-free hens. The order was issued on February 20 to help lower egg prices, and supplies have improved with prices dropping about $1.37 per dozen—officials said the change helps families access affordable protein.  KTVN
  • NV Energy reported that more than 4,500 people lost power in Washoe County — nearly 1,800 of those in Reno. The outages began on June 5 and crews are working to restore service.  KTVN
