- ➤ Sparks officials have closed roads ahead of the concert featuring Ludacris and Flo Rida (this weekend) and say the closures will help manage traffic (expect delays) for drivers. KTVN
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Washoe County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue responded on May 31 when a hiker at Hidden Valley Park was evacuated after experiencing chest pain, dizziness + weakness and later assisted three hikers near Relay Peak, one of whom showed signs of Acute Mountain Sickness. FOX Reno
- ➤ Four people were injured in a crash on McCarran Blvd early June 4 when a pickup truck ran a red light and hit a small SUV, with one person suffering life-threatening injuries — the Nevada Highway Patrol said alcohol and speed were factors. News4
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Amazon will lay off more than 300 workers in northern Nevada. Some employees accepted internal transfers to avoid job losses. KTVN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Lombardo vetoed 33 bills while signing more than 200 into law on June 4—his move came after reviewing various state proposals. This decision is expected to shape upcoming legislative discussions. KTVN
- ➤ The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Board of Fire Commissioners approved a one-year contract for Richard J. Edwards to serve as fire chief from July 1 through June 30—his contract includes a salary of $296,849.28, benefits of $145,753, and up to $5,000 for moving expenses. FOX Reno
- ➤ On June 19, government offices in Reno and Washoe County, including Sparks Justice Courts—will be closed for Juneteenth while many indoor pools in Reno close, with a few remaining open. The Postal Service will limit regular deliveries on the holiday, but FedEx offices, the County Clerk office, and animal shelter field work will continue as usual. Reno Gazette-Journal
