ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • First responders arrived around 5:30 p.m. to clean up a wood pile fire at 2512 D Street in Sparks this evening plus two people were transported by REMSA to a nearby hospital while a dog was evacuated and officials worked to secure power poles and shut off power for 350 customers.  KTVN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Graduation ceremonies for Washoe County seniors will run from June 4–16 with events held at Lawlor Events Center, TMCC and other local venues, and livestreams will be available on WCSD’s YouTube channel. Some events, including those at Lawlor, will enforce limits on tickets and bag sizes to ensure clear views.  Reno Gazette-Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scientists at the Desert Research Institute released a report on June 2 stating that wildfire smoke increases particulate matter—this may affect cloud formation—and potentially lower air quality in Sparks soon.  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Washoe County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies will step up patrols from June 5 through June 21 as part of a Joining Forces campaign to fight impaired driving. Officials advise drivers to use ride-share services — pick a sober driver and report those who drive drunk — to keep roads safe.  KTVN
