CRIME NEWS

  • A bicyclist died late Wednesday, May 28 in Washoe Valley when a suspected pickup truck hit him and fled the scene—authorities are asking for any details about the vehicle last seen on Eastlake Boulevard.  Reno Gazette-Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Reno and other parts of Northern Nevada are preparing for a heatwave as temperatures will rise 15 to 20 degrees above average by the end of the week. Meteorologists say there is a 70% chance of record highs today and on Saturday with a 30% chance of reaching 100 degrees on Saturday — the first time such heat will occur in May, and local fire officials warn residents not to cool off in cold, fast river water because of hypothermia risks.  News4

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesenia’s husband was taken by ICE at a Sparks construction job in early May and is now held in a federal detention center in Louisiana with short daily calls allowed—ICE targeted 52 men in Northern Nevada from May 5 to 8, sparking fear among local immigrant families.  Reno Gazette-Journal
