- ➤ Friends of Washoe County Library will host a book sale for nine consecutive days at Reno Town Mall from May 31 until Jun 8, with daily hours from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.—the sale will offer books, CDs, and DVDs priced from 50 cents and accept only cash and checks, with a members-only early shopping night on May 30 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. KTVN
- ➤ Sky Tavern will kick off its summer bike park season with the MAYDAY Festival on May 31 at 10:00 a.m.—the event will feature bike demos, food trucks, a vendor village, and a 650-foot dual zip line with proceeds set to fund a new progression flow trail later this summer. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Sparks man, Michael Meadows, 43, was arrested Monday, May 26th for allegedly invading a home and fleeing after a hit-and-run crash, police said — he now faces felony charges for home invasion and disobeying a peace officer — while also facing misdemeanors for not stopping after the crash. - ➤ Police arrested Michael Meadows on Monday after he fled officers during a domestic disturbance on May 21 in which he kicked in a door and later struck a vehicle — he was tracked to a nearby location and now faces charges including felony home invasion and disobeying a peace officer. FOX Reno
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Sparks City Council passed the 2025/2026 budget on Tuesday with a 3 to 2 vote, directing the city manager to raise the Waste Management franchise fee from 8 percent to 14 percent. The fee change freezes three open police officer positions and will lead to layoffs of five firefighters while setting up a higher deficit for the next fiscal year—though the increase was less than originally approved—. - ➤ Greater Nevada Field will host the Northern Nevada Baseball Club Camp from July 28 through July 30 where youth players ages 9 to 13 will train and improve their skills. Former MLB players Chris Gimenez and Chris Aguila will coach the campers, and registration costs $325 until July 17 with each participant receiving a complimentary ticket to the Reno Aces game on July 25.
