COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Many commemorative events across Northern Nevada will honor fallen service members this Memorial Day weekend with activities scheduled on May 24, 25 and 26. Sparks residents will join a free run/walk at Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza on May 26 at 8 a.m.—other events include flag placement in Fernley and a parade in Virginia City.  Reno Gazette-Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Truckee Meadows Fire – Rescue said that forward progress on the Oling Fire in Wadsworth stopped on May 20 and evacuations were lifted, with firefighters containing 30% of the blaze.  KTVN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • NV Energy CEO Doug Cannon resigned Tuesday amid an investigation into rate misclassifications that reportedly overcharged customers by more than $17 million since 2001, and his successor Brandon Barkhuff was named—prompting closer review of refunds. Cannon will become president of AEP Transmission on June 11—marking a major shift in leadership.  News4

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nevada construction workers relaunched a statewide safety campaign called "Respect the Cone: My family needs me home" to urge drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones to protect workers and their families. This summer, safety messages will appear on billboards, digital ads, and signage in Sparks — a move aimed at reducing work zone crashes.  KTVN
