CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A California woman was arrested on May 14 at Scheels for allegedly stealing nearly $3,000 in separate incidents — the 58-year-old suspect, Patricia Davis, now faces charges of grand larceny and petit larceny. KTVN
- ➤ Sparks police arrested 58-year-old California native Patrica Davis on May 14 at Scheels on Scheels Drive after she allegedly stole nearly $3,000 in handbags and wallets by bypassing all points of sale—loss prevention later linked her to a similar theft in April. News4
- ➤ Police arrested 48-year-old Jeannie Franklin on Wednesday night in Sparks after she allegedly stole $50 in clothing from Marshalls by hiding items in the store before leaving, and she was later detained outside the Disc Drive store (while facing an outstanding felony warrant and charged with petit larceny) on $5,000 bond. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Traffic engineers in Washoe County are retiming signals on Sparks Boulevard and Pyramid Way to ease congestion and will reduce commute times by 15% for 40,000 daily travelers. The project involves local and regional agencies and the University of Nevada, Reno to fix detection issues and improve flow — a change expected to cut drivers’ annual idle gas costs. FOX Reno
- ➤ NV Energy overcharged about 80,000 customers by more than $17 million over several years due to rate misclassifications and cut off service for many while capping refunds at six months—Public Utilities Commission staff have asked for an investigation to ensure that all affected customers receive full refunds.
