  • Residents met at Hug High School Wednesday night to discuss Wingfield Nevada Group’s proposal to replace the Lakes Course with 764 homes at the golf course in Sparks – public concerns about traffic, sewage, and wetlands were raised as further meetings are planned.  FOX Reno

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A brush fire near Spanish Springs and Pyramid Lake was held to one acre on Wednesday after Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue launched a rapid response, and firefighters remain on site for mop up operations.  News4

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Target is remodeling over 130 stores nationwide, though it is unclear if Nevada outlets will be updated. If local outlets are affected, Sparks shoppers might soon see refreshed layouts + expanded services as part of a $5 billion investment.  Reno Gazette-Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The WCSD Board of Trustees unanimously selected Tiffany McMaster to serve as superintendent during a public meeting, with contract negotiations set to begin soon. McMaster, who has worked at the district since 1998 and served as deputy superintendent under Superintendent Joe Ernst, will start on July 8.  KTVN
  • The Inter-Tribal Council announced that the Headstart program will continue until its normal summer closure in June, with new management taking over in July. It supports about 220 Native children and families across the state.  KTVN

  • Wildfire experts warn that a record-setting warm, dry March and a below-average Sierra snowpack could lead to increased wildfire risk later this summer. Officials advise residents to clear fuels & prepare evacuation plans soon.  News4
  • NV is bracing for heightened wildfire risk later this summer after a warm, dry March and a lower than average Sierra snowpack (experts termed this a warm snow drought), and Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue Wildland Division urges residents to prepare evacuation plans and clear defensible space now.  FOX Reno
