EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Spanish Springs High School is the only Washoe County school offering an automotive technology class where teacher Raul Hernandez revived the program by collecting donated cars for hands-on learning. Students like Jai Marquez switched schools for the course and the school will expand the auto program next year — more vehicles are needed to keep teaching these trade skills. News4
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Advisors advise Sparks residents to close windows and wear a mask during prescribed burns—steps aimed at reducing smoke exposure—if possible. KTVN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Senate Bill 348 passed the full Senate 16—5 and will raise the fee hospitals pay for newborn screenings from $81 to $150 so that the Nevada State Public Health Lab can continue tests once ARPA funds end next year. Hospital groups oppose the fee while state leaders and Medicaid propose changes to cover the extra cost. Reno Gazette-Journal
