ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Aidan Welch, a 21-year-old backcountry skier, fell down a mountain a couple weeks ago—he is now recovering in a Reno hospital after a difficult struggle to reach safety. KTVN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Nevada DMV announced that starting Wednesday, May 7, a Real ID will be needed for commercial flights and access to certain government buildings, and it is expanding walk-in services to help locals apply. DMV officials expect more available appointments + clear guidance to prepare residents for the new rules. KTVN
- ➤ Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District’s Board of Fire Commissioners appointed Chief Richard Edwards as the new fire chief, and his employment contract is expected in the coming weeks. Edwards brings over 25 years of firefighting experience from Stockton—he is prepared to tackle regional coordination and financial challenges in his new role. FOX Reno
- ➤ Sen. Dina Neal said at a May 2 hearing that Senate Bill 121 would extend the landscaping deadline for new homeowners to three years—up from 180 days—to help ease financial stress and counter claims of unfair treatment by HOA representatives. The committee did not act on the measure and lawmakers continue to review its details. Reno Gazette-Journal
- ➤ Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue will interview the final fire chief candidates Monday to fill the new position after the previous chief retired; the candidates include Michael Despain (Interim Deputy Fire Chief, Redmond Fire Department), Richard J. Edwards (Fire Chief, Stockton Fire Department), Timothy Soule (Fire Chief, Rural Metro Fire Department), Loren Dale Way (Interim Fire Chief/CEO, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District) and Walt W.
