- ➤ Sparks Police said Avenue of the Oaks at 1400 was blocked when a shooting occurred around 3 a.m. on Sunday, and SWAT and hostage negotiators contacted an armed subject—he left peacefully so the road reopened just before 11 a.m. KTVN
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Nevada, Reno Extension is offering an online Home Horticulture Certificate Program that starts August 7 and runs until October 6—designed for those building gardening skills and seeking certification as Nevada Master Gardeners. The course costs $275 and registration ends July 28—covering lessons on soils, composting, native plants, small fruits, vegetables and pest management. KTVN

- ➤ TMFR held a meet and greet on May 4 to introduce candidates for the new fire chief position. Organizers narrowed down the pool from about 60 applicants to five candidates—each now set to move forward in the selection process. KTVN
- ➤ Local law enforcement in Washoe and Storey counties launched a Joining Forces Click It or Ticket Campaign today to encourage drivers to buckle up—part of a statewide effort to reduce crash injuries and deaths. The campaign will run until May 26—ensuring drivers know the importance of wearing seat belts. KTVN
- ➤ The Nevada DMV is offering walk-in appointments this week for residents to obtain their Real ID before new rules require a Real ID instead of a state license for commercial air travel on May 7 — officials urge drivers to act soon to meet the deadline. KTVN
