COMMUNITY NEWS

  • VFW Post 8071 in Virginia City launched a food drive on May 3 for non-perishable items that will help local food banks and will continue accepting donations until May 17—items go directly to food banks in Storey County and northern Nevada.  KTVN
  • Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and 801 volunteers removed over 63.5 tons of trash and 79 tons of invasive weeds from 33 cleanup sites in the Truckee Meadows on May 3. Volunteers spread 370 yards of mulch in parks and planted 10 trees—efforts that underline the scale of the cleanup.  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nevada residents must obtain a REAL ID or another federally approved ID by May 7 to board commercial flights after standard licenses are no longer accepted. The DMV process requires a visit with documents that prove identity, Social Security number, and residence — and extra paperwork if there are recent changes in name or immigration status.  Reno Gazette-Journal
  • The U.S. and Nevada flags will be lowered to half-staff today+ to honor fallen firefighters+ as officials direct the tribute in respect of their service.  KTVN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nevada Softball seniors put up strong hits on Senior Day at Hixson Softball Park, going five-for-eight with four RBIs, a triple and a home run to win their 40th game of the season — a total that ties for the second most in team history. The team will play at 3:00 p.m. on May 8 at San Diego State Softball Stadium — as they await the winner of a game between Boise State and Utah State.  KTVN
  • Nevada Baseball took a 6-5 win over Fresno State Bulldogs on May 3rd as Yamaguchi hit his second walk-off homer to secure the close victory.  KTVN
