- ➤ Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue contained a small brush fire north of Desert Skies Middle School on Friday, May 1 — no buildings were at risk and the cause is under investigation. FOX Reno
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology briefly went to secured campus status Friday afternoon amid reports of police activity near the school, but teaching continued as school police responded (Principal Jason Mattick confirmed the incident was quickly resolved). KTVN
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A magnitude 5.2 aftershock hit near Silver Springs on May 1, and residents felt the tremor. Local officials are monitoring the situation for any further impacts. KTVN
- ➤ Silver Springs residents experienced an aftershock on Friday, May 1 and noted that earthquakes have long been a regular part of local life (residents continue to adapt to the tremors). KTVN
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Northern Nevada Public Health is investigating a cluster of cryptosporidiosis cases linked to a live animal yoga class in Washoe County (reported May 1) as the agency works to trace exposures and prevent further illness. KTVN
