- ➤ Northern Nevada residents are invited to help the Food Bank of Northern Nevada by placing non-perishable, non-expired food items in sturdy bags near their mailboxes on Saturday, May 10, as part of the Stamp Out Hunger food drive hosted by the National Association of Letter Carriers. Last year, the drive collected over 100,000 pounds of food — no glass jars are accepted this year. KTVN
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Over 200 Spanish goats supplied by High Desert Grazing are grazing on about 20 acres in the north Mogul Creek canyon above Somersett to cut fire fuels and build defensible space around homes. The public may visit the site with caution — an electric fence and guard dogs keep the goats safe. News4
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting May 1, the Bureau of Land Management banned fireworks, explosives, tracer ammunition and combustion engines without proper spark arrestors on Nevada public lands to reduce human-caused wildfires — local districts may add further restrictions and violators risk fines and suppression costs. This order covers roughly 48 million acres to protect recreation trails and other natural areas. Reno Gazette-Journal
- ➤ Congress held a public briefing on May 1 to discuss UFO sightings — over 1,700 reports from Nevada — with experts and former military officials testifying.
