CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Esteban Murillo Garcia pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in January and received a life sentence without parole after he shot Jennifer Beltran-Galassi in August 2023—she was the mother of his child. KTVN
- ➤ Esteban Garcia was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder of Jennifer Beltran-Galassi, the mother of his child in Sun Valley on August 5, 2023, and received additional penalties for weapons enhancement on April 25 by Judge Lynne Jones in Washoe County (he had prior domestic violence convictions). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District will break ground on Station 35 on Monday, April 28 at 11 a.m. north of I-80 and Waltham Way near an Apple data center—Apple donated both land and funding for the new 13,000-square-foot facility that will house four to eight firefighters, a Type 1 fire engine, a Type 3 brush engine and a water tender with space for a paramedic ambulance to help address rising traffic accidents and brushfires in the area. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The District Board of Health postponed the helicopter mosquito abatement program for the 2025 season on April 24—aiming to save roughly $260,000. Northern Nevada Public Health will still monitor mosquito populations and treat small breeding areas with drones—if needed. News4
